OmniSTAR 2100
The first important thing is that you have a OmniSTAR receiver with the latest firmware version. Please call your nearest OmniSTAR branch for the latest update. Some subscription possibilities will not work with old firmware!
Setup your OmniSTAR receiver and switch it on. Make sure the receiver has a lock on the OmniSTAR satellite.
Important things OmniSTAR needs to know before they can subscribe:
- Type of receiver
- Serial number
- Type of activation you require
- Location
- Firmware of receiver
- Satellite service which the unit is locked onto.

We recommend that if possible you also take the opportunity to upgrade your receiver to the latest version of firmware currently Omni_4.8.
You should contact your supplier with regard to the upgrade procedure and OmniSTAR to re-subscribe your receiver after a firmware upgrade.
To change the OmniSTAR satellite frequency via the SLXmon program:
- Connect the command cable with the label command to the COM1 of the computer.
- Select File menu item, followed by Connect, set the correct PC COM port, the default baud setting is 19200.
- Select Control menu, followed by View Command page.
- In the Message to SLX window type $JFREQ,<satellite frequency>,<baud rate> and press Send (the message format is $JFREQ<frequency in KHz.><link baud rate>).)
- Then in the Message to SLX window type $JSAVE and press SEND.

- From the Start Screen, use the 5 buttons and display on the front panel.
- Press the UP button repeatedly, until the “CHANNEL SELECTION” screen appears.
- Press the RIGHT button and observe the display shows Satellite Name or “FREQUENCY”.
- Press UP button repeatedly till the display shows “CUSTOM SEE FR / SR”.
- Press the RIGHT button and observe the present frequency on the display.
- Press DOWN once to select the cursor. Use the UP and DOWN to set the digits and LEFT and RIGHT to move the cursor.
- Set the chosen frequency (e.g. 1535185000) and enter it with the ENTER button.
- Set the Symbol rate to the chosen symbol rate (e.g. 2438) and enter it with the ENTER button.
- Your Receiver is now tuned to the new satellite. Allow 45 minutes to get the system to work

OmniSTAR 3200LR12
Use the AgRemote and a RS232 cable to set up your OmniSTAR 3200LR12 receiver for your OmniSTAR activation.
- Use AgRemote, after connecting to the receiver the rest of the procedure is the same as the Trimble Ag132.
- From the HOME SCREEN press the RIGHT ARROW key until you access the CONFIGURATION screen.
- Press DOWN ARROW key to enter these screens
- Press RIGHT ARROW key until you access the DGPS CONFIGURATION screen.
- Press DOWN ARROW key until DGPS SOURCE screen appears.
- Choose SATELLITE ONLY
- Press ENTER key
- Press DOWN ARROW key until EZ SAT: screen appears.
- Use arrow keys to set provider to OMNI
- Press ENTER key
- Use arrow keys to choose the correct satellite for your area. For a list of satellite frequencies, click here.
- Press ENTER key
- Press DOWN ARROW key until SATELLITE FREQ screen appears.
- This will list the frequency of the DGPS satellite you specified in the EZ SAT: field. Press DOWN ARROW key until SATELLITE BAUD RATE screen appears.
- This should update to the Data Rate of the satellite you specified in the EZ SAT: field. Press DOWN ARROW key until prompted to exit DGPS CONFIG. screen.
- Press ENTER key to exit.
- After changing the frequency, restore the settings of Port A to Port output NMEA baudrate 9600,8,N,1.
- The program will reply an error message: “Lost communications with the receiver check cables”
- Allow 30-45 minutes to get the system to work during the activation process
OmniSTAR must then send an activation code (RSOC-type) over the satellite to the unit. When received, it will display RESET BY OMNI ACTIVATION, PLEASE HIT ENTER TO CONTINUE. It can take up to 30 minutes for activation to be complete. It is important that the system be left on until the receiver positions differentially.
To check that activation was successful:
- Connect to AgRemote
- From the HOME SCREEN press the RIGHT ARROW key until you access the STATUS screen.
- Press DOWN ARROW key to enter these screens
- Use RIGHT ARROW key, access the DGPS SCREEN
- Press DOWN ARROW key.
- First screen should display Satellite Frequency and S/N of the satellite signal-noise ratio and the strength of the differential satellite lock.
- Press DOWN ARROW key and screen should display Omni as SERVICE PROVIDER.
- Press DOWN ARROW key and DGPS DATA SOURCE should read correct REFERENCE STATION ID.
- Press DOWN ARROW key and screen should display AGE of DGPS and AGE of SYNC.
- Press DOWN ARROW key until Omni*SERVICE INFO appears
- Press ENTER key to access this screen.
- Use ENTER key to scroll through the screens for status of the OmniStar subscription activation noting USER ENABLED and STOP DATE.
- Use ARROW keys to display HOME SCREEN.
- The HOME SCREEN will display on the top line, the type of position recorded. THE letter G will be replaced as a D when the receiver starts computing differentially corrected positions. The second line should display the DGPS satellite frequency.
- After changing the frequency, restore the settings of Port A to Port output NMEA baudrate 9600,8,N,1.
- The program will reply an error message: “Lost communications with the receiver check cables”:
For the OmniSTAR 3200LR12 you will require a RS232 cable and the AgRemote software.
- Connect the computer to Port B and run AgRemote.
- Press the ESCAPE button until the “Home” screen appears.
- Press “>” RIGHT button until the “Configuration” screen appears.
- Press the “V” DOWN button once.
- Press the > RIGHT button until the “DGPS Config” screen.
- Press the V DOWN button until the “Satellite Freq” appears.
- Press the > RIGHT button for the cursor to flash on the first digit.
- Press the V DOWN and UP buttons to change the digits. Press the > RIGHT button to move on to the next digit until the desired frequency is displayed eg. 1535.1850 MHz.
- Press the ENTER button to lock in the new frequency. The cursor will disappear from the screen. CHECK THE FREQUENCY ON YOUR RECIEVER IS ENTERED IN CORRECTLY
- Press the ESC button until the “Home” screen appears.
- Allow 45 minutes to get the system to work.

To switch the satellite frequency of the 8300HP via a Command-line interface:
- Close all programs on the computer.
- Connect the data cable from the black XYZ port of the Novatel to the computer.
- Run the Command-line software (eg. Hyperterminal or Novatel CDU software).
- In the Command line window type: assignlband omnistar <satellite frequency> <baud_rate>
- Press <ENTER> key
- To save configuration, type: saveconfig <ENTER>
- When this has completed successfully, call OmniSTAR for a re-subscription.
To switch the satellite frequency of the 8300HP using the View8300 program:
- From the main screen menu click Configuration -> DGPS service.
- The Select DGPS service window (see figure) will pop-up.
- Select OmniSTAR as the HP and differential source and choose the right satellite for your region or fill in a frequency and baud rate manually.
- Clicking OK will send the changes to the receiver.
- Clicking Cancel will discard them.

OmniLITE 132
Use the AgRemote program and a RS232 cable to set up your OmniLITE 132 receiver for your OmniSTAR activation.
- Use AgRemote, after connecting to the receiver the rest of the procedure is the same as the Trimble Ag132.
- From the HOME SCREEN press the RIGHT ARROW key until you access the CONFIGURATION screen.
- Press DOWN ARROW key to enter these screens
- Press RIGHT ARROW key until you access the DGPS CONFIGURATION screen.
- Press DOWN ARROW key until DGPS SOURCE screen appears.
- Choose SATELLITE ONLY
- Press ENTER key
- Press DOWN ARROW key until EZ SAT: screen appears.
- Use arrow keys to set provider to OMNI
- Press ENTER key
- Use arrow keys to choose the correct satellite for your area. For a list of satellite frequencies, click here.
- Press ENTER key
- Press DOWN ARROW key until SATELLITE FREQ screen appears.
- This will list the frequency of the DGPS satellite you specified in the EZ SAT: field. Press DOWN ARROW key until SATELLITE BAUD RATE screen appears.
- This should update to the Data Rate of the satellite you specified in the EZ SAT: field. Press DOWN ARROW key until prompted to exit DGPS CONFIG. screen.
- Press ENTER key to exit.
- After changing the frequency, restore the settings of Port A to Port output NMEA baudrate 9600,8,N,1.
- The program will reply an error message: “Lost communications with the receiver check cables”
- Allow 30-45 minutes to get the system to work during the activation process
OmniSTAR must then send an activation code (RSOC-type) over the satellite to the unit. When received, it will display RESET BY OMNI ACTIVATION, PLEASE HIT ENTER TO CONTINUE. It can take up to 30 minutes for activation to be complete. It is important that the system be left on until the receiver positions differentially.
To check that activation was successful:
- Connect to AgRemote
- From the HOME SCREEN press the RIGHT ARROW key until you access the STATUS screen.
- Press DOWN ARROW key to enter these screens
- Use RIGHT ARROW key, access the DGPS SCREEN
- Press DOWN ARROW key.
- First screen should display Satellite Frequency and S/N of the satellite signal-noise ratio and the strength of the differential satellite lock.
- Press DOWN ARROW key and screen should display Omni as SERVICE PROVIDER.
- Press DOWN ARROW key and DGPS DATA SOURCE should read correct REFERENCE STATION ID.
- Press DOWN ARROW key and screen should display AGE of DGPS and AGE of SYNC.
- Press DOWN ARROW key until Omni*SERVICE INFO appears
- Press ENTER key to access this screen.
- Use ENTER key to scroll through the screens for status of the OmniStar subscription activation noting USER ENABLED and STOP DATE.
- Use ARROW keys to display HOME SCREEN.
- The HOME SCREEN will display on the top line, the type of position recorded. THE letter G will be replaced as a D when the receiver starts computing differentially corrected positions. The second line should display the DGPS satellite frequency.
- After changing the frequency, restore the settings of Port A to Port output NMEA baudrate 9600,8,N,1.
- The program will reply an error message: “Lost communications with the receiver check cables”:
For the OmniLITE 132 you will require a RS232 cable and the AgRemote program.
- Connect the computer to Port B and run AgRemote.
- Press the ESCAPE button until the “Home” screen appears.
- Press “>” RIGHT button until the “Configuration” screen appears.
- Press the “V” DOWN button once.
- Press the > RIGHT button until the “DGPS Config” screen.
- Press the V DOWN button until the “Satellite Freq” appears.
- Press the > RIGHT button for the cursor to flash on the first digit.
- Press the V DOWN and UP buttons to change the digits. Press the > RIGHT button to move on to the next digit until the desired frequency is displayed eg. 1535.1850 MHz.
- Press the ENTER button to lock in the new frequency. The cursor will disappear from the screen. CHECK THE FREQUENCY ON YOUR RECIEVER IS ENTERED IN CORRECTLY
- Press the ESC button until the “Home” screen appears.
- Allow 45 minutes to get the system to work.

To change the OmniSTAR satellite frequency via the SLXmon program:
- Connect the command cable with the label command to the COM1 of the computer.
- Select File menu item, followed by Connect, set the correct PC COM port, the default baud setting is 19200.
- Select Control menu, followed by View Command page.
- In the Message to SLX window type $JFREQ,<satellite frequency>,<baud rate> and press Send (the message format is $JFREQ<frequency in KHz.><link baud rate>).)
- Then in the Message to SLX window type $JSAVE and press SEND.
